Photographs
of the largest of the Giant Buddhas of Bamiyan destroyed in March 2001
These photographs were taken in 1978 - The last year of peace in Afghanistan.
The
largest of the Buddhas was at Bamyan in central Afghanistan.
The size can be judged from the person sitting on the left foot.



It was possible to climb up the caves behind
the Buddha and emerge on it's head
to this specatular view of the Hindu Kush
